Ingredients

  • 3 to 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/4 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
  • 1 can (15 ounces) pizza sauce
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 3 cups (12 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup diced fully cooked low-sodium ham
  • 1 can (8 ounces) unsweetened pineapple tidbits, drained
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add 1-1/2 cups flour, sugar and salt; beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.

  2. Punch dough down; press onto the bottom and up the sides of a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Spread with pizza sauce; sprinkle with cheese, ham and pineapple.

  3. Bake at 400° for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is browned and cheese is melted.

Despite it's name, this sweet and savory pizza was not invented in Hawaii. The Hawaiian pizza is actually the most popular pizza in Australia, and usually consists of a cheese and tomato base, with pieces of ham and pineapple. More about your specialty pizza...

Although everyone loves traditional pepperoni as a topping, it can be fun to spice up your pizza using unusual and unexpected ingredients. It is obviously an incredibly versatile food, so you have plenty of freedom to choose your toppings, cheese, and sauce. The great thing about it is that it is easy to tailor it to the needs of your guests.

Meat lovers will love a barbecue chicken pie with cheddar cheese instead of the traditional mozzarella. For a unique vegetarian pie, try adding zucchini, eggplant, roasted red peppers, feta cheese, and olive oil. Or you could even try a dessert themed pizza, using a cinnamon glaze for the sauce and topped with apples and pears.
